Learner testimony: gaining confidence, or when eloquence is not always the best solution

Temps de lecture : 1 min

Goal: by the end of this lesson, you will understand how plain language can empower learners, especially those who lack confidence or have struggled with traditional education.

Ali, a 32-year-old migrant, enrolled in a VET program for electrical maintenance. He had always been good with tools, but school had been a struggle. The complicated reading materials made him feel lost. « I thought I just wasn’t smart enough, » he admitted.

When he started the course, he feared he would face the same challenges again. But this time, something was different. The training materials were written clearly. New words were explained. Instructions were broken into small, practical steps.

Ali began to understand—not just the theory, but how to apply it. “It was the first time school felt like it was meant for people like me,” he said.

As his confidence grew, so did his results. He completed his course, found full-time work, and now helps his colleagues by explaining technical terms in a simpler way. “Big words don’t mean big knowledge,” he says. “Sometimes, the simpler you say something, the more people understand.”

Ali’s story shows that confidence doesn’t come from fancy language—it comes from clarity. Learners from all backgrounds deserve to understand what they’re reading. Plain language gives them the chance to succeed.

When education is made accessible, learners don’t just pass exams—they discover their potential.
